Robert King

Dr. Robert L. King is Professor Emeritus of
Marketing and Director Emeritus of International
Business Studies in the E. Claiborne Robins School
of Business at the University of Richmond in
Richmond, Virginia. Previously, he was a holder of
the Robert A. Jolley Endowed Chair in Business
Administration and Head of the Department of
Business Administration at The Citadel in
Charleston, South Carolina. Earlier he served as
Professor of Marketing, Head of the Department of
Business Administration, and Associate Dean of the
Graduate School at Virginia Polytechnic Institute
and State University in Blacksburg, Virginia. While
on the faculty of the University of South
Carolina, he held the Citizens and Southern
National Bank Chair in Business
Administration. |

Dr.
King received his Bachelor of Business Administration
degree from University of Georgia. He holds Master
of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Business
Administration from Michigan State University. In
1992 he was awarded the degree of Doctor Honoris Causa by
the Wroclaw University of Economics (formerly the Oskar
Lange Academy of Economics) in Wroclaw, Poland, in
recognition of his research of Polish marketing structures
and procedures, and for his contributions to Polish-American
educational cooperation.
Professor
King has been active in a number of professional academic
societies, including the American Academy of Advertising,
Academy of Marketing Science, American Marketing
Association, Academy of International Business,
Association for Consumer Research, Decision Sciences
Institute, American Association for the Advancement of
Slavic Studies, and several regional organizations.
Presently, he is the director of conference services
for AAA, where he previously served as the
executive secretary and the book review editor of its
Journal of Advertising. Previously, he has served
the Academy of Marketing Science as chairman of the
Board of Governors and as vice president and treasurer. He
is a past president of the Southern Marketing Association
and past vice-president for development of the Decision
Sciences Institute, Southeast Region. He has edited the
official proceedings of the Academy of Marketing Science,
American Marketing Association, AAA, Southern Marketing
Association, and the Academy of International Business,
Southeast USA Region. He is the author or editor of
approximately 90 books, articles, monographs and
published papers in the marketing and advertising academic
literature. In 2004, he received the Distinguished Service
Award of AAA.
Dr.
King has made professional and personal visits to
approximately 40 countries. He served as a Fulbright
lecturer at the Industrial Management Institute in Kabul,
Afghanistan, in 1978. Since 1978, he has made
about 20 visits to Poland, including invitations as
researcher and lecturer at the Wroclaw University of
Economics, Warsaw Technical University, and the
University of Lodz. Recently he led the development
of AAA’s Asia-Pacific Conference series, and he has
organized academic advertising conferences in Japan, Hong
Kong, Korea, the People’s Republic of China, and
Australia.
